I’ve approximately 3,000 playlists on iTunes and several hundred vinyl records. This obsession has mistakenly led me to believe that I have the right to be a DJ without really putting much effort into the craft.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe truth is I’m just not a good DJ. In fact, I’m a bad one. I’m sloppy, impatient, stubborn, and my taste ranges from fringe to antagonistic. If I get booked to play at a night the contrarian in me wants to play a completely different genre to what’s expected. I always seem to clear the dance floor within 2 tracks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis truth was made apparent at a recent party where one of my oldest friends played his first ever set in his late 30s. The excitement and enthusiasm - not to mention the many, many hours of \u003cem\u003epractice\u003c\/em\u003e - were immediately apparent. He absolutely smashed out two hours of perfectly mixed jungle and it was a joy to watch someone unearth a new passion this far into adulthood and germinate that passion with tireless dedication.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBeing a bad DJ doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop. I’m a firm believer that everyone should find at least one hobby they’re not naturally good at and do it anyway. It's good for you like eating your greens.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis one is for the bad DJs.
