A 17th century Irish remedy for demonic possession in the form of the Windows blue screen of death.
It is based on a recipe recorded by eminent demonologist Daniel Higgs for an ointment with which he successfully cured a young girl who had been possessed by a witch in 1698. The witch in question was murdered in Ireland's only known witch-lynching. Alongside the ointment Higgs prescribed an elixir of southern wood, mugwort and vervene. The remedy is thought to have been devised by Bartholomew Carrichter, physician to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximillian II.
It is worth remembering that there are greenland sharks alive today who would have been alive when Daniel Higgs administered this remedy.
