I used to be an arachnophobe. Once a large house spider surprised me by hiding in a towel and ended up crawling down my back. It wasn't pleasant but I didn't die. The world didn't end. Now I have chosen curiosity over fear. The more you learn about spiders the more interesting and less scary they become. They are hugely diverse, capable of problem solving and have a wide array of mating rituals and hunting techniques.
House spiders are descended from species originally living in Africa and the Mediterranean. They found a home here only when humans began building permanent structures. They are not evolved to survive in cold weather and to evict them is to sentence them to a slow, cruel death. If you need to move a spider from an inconvenient location please plonk them somewhere where they can get back in again.
Spiders have been around much longer than we have. It is their world and we should be grateful that they are willing to share it with us.
Of course, I say all of this with the benefit of not living in Australia.

Everything on this shop was painted by me, a real human called Jim.
Since 2013 I've been taking requests from social media and rendering them in painstaking detail on an old version of Microsoft Paint. You can read more about me here...
